Supplying water park equipment across Africa
Practical guidance on shipping commercial water park equipment to African markets — SONCAP, KEBS, port transit times, container volumes and climate specification.

African aquatic demand is growing quickly and is genuinely underserved. Hotel and resort development, private residential clubs and municipal leisure projects all need this equipment, and most large manufacturers treat the continent as a rounding error.
Dubai is a practical place to supply it from. Jebel Ali connects to East and West African ports on established routes, and consolidation through Dubai often beats shipping direct from Asia for anything under a full container load.
Conformity by market
This is where projects stall. Every requirement below is obtained before shipment, not on arrival.
Nigeria — SONCAP
Conformity assessment obtained pre-shipment, with a product certificate and a SONCAP certificate per consignment. Non-negotiable, and the single most common cause of delay into Lagos.
Kenya — KEBS PVoC
Pre-export verification of conformity, carried out in the country of supply. Mombasa also serves as the gateway for Uganda, Rwanda and eastern DRC, so the same certification often covers a wider project.
Egypt
Requirements change more frequently than most markets. Confirm current rules with your broker at enquiry stage rather than at order stage.
South Africa
The most mature market on the continent, with existing operators and a domestic supply base you will be competing against on price and lead time.
Freight realities
Water park equipment is bulky and light. It prices by cubic metre, not by weight, which surprises buyers who budget freight as a percentage of tonnage.
| Item | Typical |
|---|---|
| Container type | 40 ft high cube |
| Mid-size play structure | 2–4 containers |
| Jebel Ali to East African ports | 12–20 days |
| Jebel Ali to West African ports | 25–40 days |
| Freight as share of equipment value | 12–25% |
Port handling varies enormously and is frequently the largest single variable in the programme. Build contingency in rather than promising an opening date against a best case.
Incoterms matter more here
FOB, CIF and DDP place very different obligations on you, and the difference is most consequential exactly where port handling is least predictable. If you have not imported equipment of this size before, discuss the Incoterm properly before the quotation is issued — it is a five-minute conversation that prevents a large misunderstanding.
Climate and specification
Much of the continent shares the UV exposure problem with the Gulf. Equatorial markets add humidity, which affects steel components and fixings more than fibreglass.
- Galvanised or stainless fixings as standard, not as an upgrade
- Confirmed UV rating on gelcoat and plastics
- Corrosion specification for coastal installations — Mombasa, Lagos, Dar es Salaam
- Filtration sized for higher particulate loading
Consolidation
If your order is less than a container load — common for a first splash pad project — consolidating through Dubai is usually cheaper than shipping direct from the manufacturer. Worth asking about before you accept a freight quote.
Spares
Plan for them at order. Lead times into most African markets make a failed pump or a cracked flume section a multi-week closure if the part has to be ordered from scratch. A modest spares package shipped with the original consignment costs very little and protects the operating season.
Working with us
We quote delivered to your port with freight itemised, and we coordinate the conformity route for the destination you nominate. Tell us the country at enquiry stage — certification frequently takes longer than manufacture, and started early it costs you nothing.
Aqua Park Supply ships commercial aquatic equipment worldwide from Dubai. See supplying Africa, the shipping and export process, or request a quotation.
Planning a project?
Send your plot dimensions, height allowance and the age group you are building for. We will tell you what fits and what it costs delivered in AED.
