How long water park equipment actually takes
A realistic programme for commercial water park equipment — quotation, drawing approval, manufacture, certification, freight and clearance, for UAE, GCC and African projects.

The most expensive mistake in an aquatic project is announcing an opening date before anyone has checked the equipment programme. Here is what it actually takes.
The full sequence
| Stage | Typical duration | Runs in parallel? |
|---|---|---|
| Specification and quotation | 1–3 weeks | — |
| Order, deposit, drawing approval | 2–4 weeks | — |
| Manufacture | 6–14 weeks | — |
| Conformity certification | 2–6 weeks | Yes, with manufacture |
| Container loading and export docs | 1 week | — |
| Sea freight to Jebel Ali | 18–28 days | — |
| Onward to GCC or Africa | 1–6 weeks | — |
| Customs clearance | 2–7 days with complete documents | — |
| Installation | 2–8 weeks | — |
Plan on four to six months from order to equipment on site for a project of any size, plus installation. Compressing that is possible and costs money.
What actually drives the variance
Theming
Standard colours are quick. Sculpted themed elements are hand-finished and can add four to six weeks on their own. If the programme is tight, theming is the first thing to simplify.
Drawing approval
Manufacture does not begin until drawings are approved, and this stage is entirely within your control. Projects lose two to three weeks here routinely because approval sits with a consultant who has not been told it is on the critical path.
Certification
SASO via SABER for Saudi Arabia, SONCAP for Nigeria, KEBS for Kenya. Started at order it costs nothing in programme terms because it overlaps manufacture. Started at shipping it becomes the critical path and generates demurrage. This is the single most common avoidable delay we see.
Order size
A single compact structure and a full park package have similar administrative lead-in but very different production times.
The civil works trap
The most common programme failure has nothing to do with the equipment. Contractors pour pools and foundations before the equipment is specified, using assumed dimensions. Then the actual splash pool depth, run-out length or anchor positions do not match, and the remedy is breaking out concrete.
Sequence it correctly: specify the equipment, receive the dimensional package, then design the civil works around it. Not the other way round.
Working backwards from an opening date
For a target opening in, say, October:
- Order placed: by end of March
- Drawings approved: April
- Manufacture and certification: April to July
- Shipping: July to August
- Clearance and delivery: August
- Installation and commissioning: September
- Testing and staff training: late September
That leaves no contingency. Add six weeks if the date is contractual.
Where time can genuinely be saved
- Simplify theming to standard colours
- Nominate a single approver for drawings with authority to sign
- Give the destination country at enquiry stage so certification starts early
- Consider road freight from Dubai for GCC destinations rather than a second sea leg
- Order spares with the main consignment rather than after commissioning
Where it cannot
Manufacture and certification. Both have floors, and suppliers who promise otherwise are either air-freighting at ruinous cost or about to disappoint you.
If you have a fixed opening date, tell us at enquiry stage. Commercial water park equipment is supplied worldwide from Dubai, and we would rather tell you a date is not achievable than quote against it. See how equipment supply works or request a quotation.
Planning a project?
Send your plot dimensions, height allowance and the age group you are building for. We will tell you what fits and what it costs delivered in AED.
